From 1 July 2026, new anti-money laundering laws apply to property transactions across Australia. The short version: everyone buying property now needs to have their identity verified. It applies to every agency, developer and conveyancer in the country, not just us. Think of it like the ID check you do when opening a bank account — same idea, now for property.
What happens
Once you’ve signed your contract, we’ll email you a secure link to upload a few documents. It’s usually quick. You’ll likely need photo ID and proof of address. If a company, trust or SMSF is involved, we may need a bit more about who’s behind it and where the funds are coming from. We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed, so there’s no guessing. From there we verify everything through approved systems, come back to you if anything’s missing, and you’re done. Your details are handled securely through FirstAML, the platform our sales team uses.
Why it’s needed
We’re required by law to run these checks. Your information is only collected where it’s necessary, stored securely, and handled in line with our privacy policy. Worth knowing: a purchase can’t settle until the checks are complete, so the sooner it’s done, the smoother things run.
