Finding Home: Yesha and Divyan’s Journey to Orana

As two of Orana’s newest residents, Yesha and Divyam’s decision to build their home in the community was shaped by deep thought, research, and soul-searching.

When they first arrived in Australia, the couple envisioned a life full of possibilities. Leaving behind their families and familiar surroundings in India was a difficult decision, but one that set the stage for a new chapter filled with opportunity and self-discovery.

Both Yesha and Divyam grew up in Ahmedabad, in western India, but they didn’t meet until their paths crossed while studying at university in Melbourne. At just 21, they had each moved across the world to pursue higher education—Yesha in Data Analytics and Divyam in Electrical Engineering at Swinburne University.

Introduced through mutual friends, they quickly bonded over shared values: a strong work ethic, a passion for investing, and a drive for building a better future.

Life in Transition

The early years were full of challenges. Life revolved around studies, casual jobs, and shared rentals. Yesha had the support of her brother, who was already living in Melbourne, while Divyam navigated the transition alone, having no family or friends in Australia. They worked part-time jobs—at Coles or cleaning services—while living with housemates and juggling university demands.

Despite the struggles, they remained focused on their long-term goal: building a life in their new country.

The Search for Their First Home

Their next step was a significant one—buying their first home. With no local family to guide them and their families in India unfamiliar with the Australian property market, they were on their own.

“It was very hard to trust anybody and we had no guidance,” Yesha shared. “We basically went to every builder in Clyde North to understand the home building process.”

After extensive research, they were drawn to Clyde North for its growth potential and, in particular, to Orana. It was the first development they visited, and it immediately stood out. What impressed them wasn’t just the plans for amenities—it was the sense of community already taking shape.

Other estates were still in early stages. But at Orana, there were already homes, neighbors, a feeling of belonging. They weren't just selling land, they were building a real community.

Why Orana?

The appeal went beyond the surface. The proximity to future infrastructure—a train station, shopping centers, parks, walkways, and schools—made Orana feel like more than just a housing estate.

When three blocks became available, they acted quickly. They had done their homework, and the decision was straightforward. They chose an east-west facing block, a direction traditionally associated with good fortune.

Even before they moved in, they saw the neighborhood coming to life. Coming from a culture rich in festivals and social events, they were excited to see Orana’s efforts in bringing people together. It wasn’t just about buying a house—it was about laying down roots.

A Family Visit and a Turning Point

After moving into their new home in November, they planned a special milestone: hosting their parents from India for the first time during Christmas.

“It felt like the perfect time,” they said. “We took a month to settle in and then invited them. We wanted them to see the house and the community we are now part of.”

Having their families witness what they had built was deeply emotional. “They were really proud,” Divyam reflected. “My dad supported us in every way, even if he didn’t say it directly. We’d hear from others how much he talked about what we’d achieved. That’s just the kind of person he is.”

Building a Life, Not Just a House

Now settled, the couple is embracing homeownership. “For the next few months, I just want to enjoy the house,” Yesha joked. “I tell him, I just want to sit and do nothing—just look at the house.”

But their ambitions stretch further. “We’re thinking ahead—building multiple income streams, making smart investments, and planning for early retirement,” Divyam said. “Even if we aren’t working, we want our money to be working for us.”

Though they would love for their families to stay longer in Australia, they understand it may not be easy. “We’d be happy to host them for extended visits, but they also have their own lives and communities back in India,” they acknowledged.

Community and Connection

Beyond the structure of their home, it’s the spirit of Orana that’s brought them the greatest joy. “We’ve already met so many neighbors,” they said. “A friend even bought a property down the street.”

They’re especially moved by the small but meaningful moments: community events, kids selling braids or lemonade, neighbors waving hello. “It reminds us of home,” Yesha said.

“It’s important to give back to the community,” they added. “We don’t expect to be part of every event, but we value respect, communication, and genuine friendships. That’s what makes a place truly feel like home.”

A New Beginning

For Yesha and Divyam, Orana is more than a suburb. It’s a place of belonging, of building something lasting. Their journey wasn’t just about bricks and mortar—it was about creating a life filled with purpose, stability, and connection.

“When you know, you know,” they said, recalling the moment they chose their block. “It was the right decision. This is home.”
