Embedded in Nature: Why Greenspace Adds Long Term Value

Posted in: Community

Orana is earning recognition for the way we’re putting greenery first, showing what modern community living can look like when nature is built into the plan.
It is designed to make daily life feel easier and more enjoyable, with greenery shaping the streets, parks and spaces residents use most.

A Neighbourhood Shaped by Trees

As Orana grows, it is being shaped around long term liveability, with tree canopy and open space treated as essential elements that help the neighbourhood feel greener from the very beginning.
With a target of more than 30 per cent tree canopy across public spaces, Orana is setting a higher standard for new neighbourhoods, where greenery is part of daily life, rather than something residents wait years to see.

Every home includes at least two trees, which means your street starts feeling greener from day one. With more than 2,700 trees already planted across Orana and plenty more on the way, that leafy setting extends well beyond your front door. For many people who now call Orana home, the trees were part of what made the community stand out. “When we first moved to Orana, the streets were already so green and welcoming, and it’s one of the things we love most about living here,” ne resident said.

The Benefits You Notice Every Day

The benefit of a greener neighbourhood is something you feel as much as you see. A strong tree canopy brings shade and natural cooling, making streets and shared spaces more comfortable to spend time in, while also supporting local biodiversity.

Together, these benefits create a more liveable neighbourhood, with cleaner air, more shade, and a richer natural environment that you notice as you go about your day.

When outdoor spaces are comfortable and well shaded, everyday trips also feel more manageable on foot or by bike, from a morning walk to the school run. That extra time outdoors supports both physical and mental wellbeing amongst the entire family.

Walkable by Design

Orana’s streets and public spaces are designed to support a safer, more active way of living, so you’re not always relying on the car for short trips.

Many streets are planned to prioritise local access over through-traffic, encouraging slower driving and creating a calmer setting where walking, riding or pushing a pram feels more comfortable.

That same planning also means the streets aren’t dominated by wide stretches of pavement. Orana’s masterplan creates more space for trees and planting, so tree canopy can establish and continue building over time.

Designed to Grow Over Time

What sets Orana apart is that its green landscape isn’t simply planted – it’s supported to thrive long term. Trees are given the right conditions to establish properly, with specialist soils, irrigation support and protected root zones built into the planning.

The street and lot design plays a role too, with minimum lot widths of 12.5 metres built in to support wider nature strips. This gives trees the space they need to grow, while service placements are planned to protect root systems as the canopy matures.

As the canopy matures and streets become greener year by year, these design decisions help the neighbourhood feel more established – something that benefits both daily living and long-term value of each home. It’s the kind of detail residents won’t notice day to day, but are felt in the long term as the landscape continues to grow.
