Orana Village opened for the first time on Friday 11 September, and after years of watching the site take shape, residents finally got to walk through the doors of their own town centre. Coles, Anytime Fitness, Sharetea and more than 25 shops and services began trading right at the heart of Orana.

It’s one of the biggest moments in Orana’s story since the first homes went up. For years, something as simple as the weekly shop, a haircut or a gym session meant packing the car and driving out of the estate. From Friday, that changed. Everything residents need now sits within walking distance, right where they live.

To celebrate, an official opening event followed the next day, filled with free activities for the whole community to enjoy.

Kids’ laughter carried across the centre and queues stretched past the shopfronts on Saturday 12 September, as the free community event brought residents, locals and people from surrounding suburbs together to celebrate the milestone, with balloon twisting, henna art, a treasure hunt, prize wheel and live music running through the morning.

One of the highlights of the day was the Orana Community Art Project, where local kids spent the morning working on their own artwork, each adding their own piece to a larger mural the whole community will get to see. A small touch, but one that gives local kids a pieces of the estate to call their own.

What Orana Village means for Orana Residents

For the families who’ve watched the site be built from the ground up, and the newer residents seeing it for the first time, the Orana Village opening is the moment they’ve been waiting for. It’s proof of how far the estate has come, and a first look at just how much residents can now do without ever leaving home.

Day to day, that means the school run can end with a stop at Coles instead of a drive across suburbs, and a trip to the gym can happen on a lunch break instead of a special trip out. No more juggling errands across three different suburbs. It’s all five minutes from home.

It’s not just Orana Village breathing new life into the community, with Wildbloom Park, Orana’s second major park, now open for all residents to enjoy, and considerable progress taking shape at the wetlands on-site. Residents now have green space to relax in, a park to bring the kids to, and a town centre for the everyday errands, all within the estate.

Together, it’s turning Orana into one of the most established communities in Clyde North, built for the people who call it home today and everyone still to move in.
